Thursday evening ended in suspense with Edition 808, Team Foreign Objects and Porsche Club all tied with nine vehicles each registered for Oktoberfest. It seemed as if Edition 808 would be the first with 10 since they had the momentum and social buzz going full-on.
First thing Friday morning, though, Porsche Club slips past the others to be the first to hit 10 and take the pole position. Porsche member Mel Akiyama entered his 1979 911 SC into the Concours competition at 9:06 a.m. He is followed immediately by Edward Yuen at 9:45 a.m. with his 1991 911 Turbo entry in the Show and Shine class for a plus-one.
Edition 808 finally came in a full day later to qualify with 10 entries when Matthew Canepa entered his 1997 VW Cabrio into Concours. Team Foreign Objects came in 12 hours later with Thainalong Vongbandith’s 2004 GTI.
We took to social media’s Facebook to learn that key Edition 808 members were unable to get their broken cars out of the pits and back on the track for qualifying. The breaks happen but there’s still 10 more days before the registration deadline on 15 October 2014.
